Montreal Children’s Hospital Performs First Cochlear Implant Surgery On Young ‘Super Hear-o’

On January 17, 2023, 13-year-old Arman Dimirjian became the first child to receive a cochlear implant at the McGill University Health Center in Montreal. Up until then, the procedure was only offered in Quebec City.

Dimirjian, who graduated from the MOSD school in 2021, is one of many children in Quebec who receives weekly services from the MOSD in their mainstream school, in collaboration with health partners.

After a successful procedure, he now feels like he has obtained new “superpowers”.

“It’s really great. I can hear things better now. Well, sort of, because it’s kind of sounding robotic, but I’ll get used to it soon and I just can’t wait to hear things so clearly,” he said.

He has earned the nickname “super hear-o” from the staff who has been working with him.

Arman is the first of many “super hear-oes” to come!
