On January 13th, the first cochlear implant surgery was performed in Montréal, a procedure that, up until now, was only offered in Quebec City.
The lucky recipient is Mrs. Madlyn Grant, a 76-year-old lady for whom hearing aids were no longer sufficient.
Patients in Western Quebec will therefore no longer have to travel to Quebec City to obtain a cochlear implant. Instead, they now have the opportunity to go to the McGill University Health Center in Montreal.
The McGill University Health Center aims to perform 150 surgeries in adults and approximately 30 to 40 surgeries in children each year.
